I am usually not one for New Years resolutions. Why? Mostly because most of them are broken before the end of January! This year, I'm doing things a little differently, though. I have made some resolutions of sorts - goals for 2015.
Now is the time to make these goals known to the world and hope I can stick to them.
Goals for 2015
1. Eliminate pop by the end of the year. - This is a big one. In our garage right now sits 4 12 packs that are full and 4 12 packs that are empty. My husband and I are both awful about this. I drank only diet for several years, but all the research against that swayed me back to regular when I got pregnant. I figured regular sugar was better than lab-created sweeteners. This has led to a big problem, though. Now I want more and more of the regular stuff. In order to gain control of that, I have decided to slowly wean off pop altogether and stick to drinking water, coffee, & tea only. (And the occasional glass of milk when that craving hits, but that's rare and milk isn't that great for adults, either.)
2. Lose 100 pounds. - I know this sounds lofty, but I can spare those pounds. That's a goal of less than 2 pounds per week, and since I'm eliminating the empty calories pop provides, it should be a little easier. I plan to track my weight loss here.
3. Get in the habit of daily exercise. - This will probably be one of the hardest things for me, because I feel like I never have enough time as it is. I know this is great for my health and a great way to set an example for my daughter about what is good for her. If I can start before she can walk, then by the time she's old enough to play sports, she'll be into it more, hopefully.
4. The 21-day Challenge. - I am not one for things like this, but as has been mentioned, I am a bit of a sugar addict. I love the foods and drinks that are at both ends of the spectrum - those that are the best and worst for you. This challenge is one I have seen on Pinterest several times and it popped up on my Facebook News Feed today just after my husband and I talked about eliminating pop. I saw it as a bit of a sign - a way to kick-start this year. Eliminate the "bad" foods. We discussed doing this in a way that will work best for us. We aren't starting it today. Instead, we are going to look at our calendar and find a 3-week span in the next couple months that will allow us the least amount of built-in distractions. We have a large family with lots of family gatherings, so we want to try to find the period with the least interruptions and temptations. We may wait until after our daughter's birthday to do this.
5. The 52-week Challenge - This is another one of those things I have seen several times on Pinterest. My daughter is a huge inspiration for me to be a better person all-around. We have already started a savings account for her, and I plan to use this challenge to add money to her account throughout the year. We also talked about doing this for a vacation fund for us as well. We want to take a trip to Hawai'i in the near future, so this will be a great way for us to put aside money for that, because I know that's going to be a very expensive trip. We also have some other vacations in mind and it would be great to have a fund specifically for that. I am very much a person that likes discipline leading to reward. We will save money to have the reward of vacation that doesn't create debt.
Well, friends, that's all for today. I just wanted to start the year off great by sharing my goals. Feel free to share your goals as well! 😊
